Late Wreck at Daytona Claims Blaney
Daytona Beach, FL (July 8, 2013) - Looking for some luck with the Florida Lottery on board, Dave Blaney and the No. 7 Tommy Baldwin team headed to Daytona International Speedway with high hopes.
At the drop of the green flag, Blaney and Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin were formulating a plan for the 160 lap race. Racing smart and steady throughout the race, Blaney moved up from his 29th starting position and was racing as high as 15th.
As the laps wound down, Baldwin repeatedly reminded Blaney to stay alert because this is the time of the race that things get crazy. Soon after, a six car accident on Lap 150 caught Blaney in the middle of the melee with no where to go. The red flag was brought out to clean up the debris and upon evaluation from our pit crew, repair work was done to get Blaney back on track for the remaining laps. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to get full repairs made allowing Blaney to work his way up the field.
Blaney and the No. 7 Florida Lottery Chevrolet were officially scored with a 31st place finish.
“We had a good run going tonight in the No. 7 Florida Lottery Chevy,” Blaney said. “We were making our way up to the front when we got caught up in the caution there on Lap 150. Unfortunately there was just not enough time left to fix the car the way we wanted too. I hate it for all my guys who worked so hard this weekend.”
After the race, Car Owner/Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin commented, “We had a good car out there tonight. Its too bad that we got caught in the wreck late in the race, here at Daytona. The Florida Lottery car was strong, and would have been a contender at the end for a Top 10 finish. Great job by all the guys on the team.”
Next weekend, the NASCAR series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Camping World RV 301.
